CONCLUSIONS: A study that was published in the journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene in November of 2009 found levels of Contine, which is a byproduct of nicotine, increase by 162% in non-smokers who are exposed to secondhand smoke outdoors.

It has also been determined that cigarettes are widely contaminated with bacteria, including those known to cause disease

Doctors Note:

Second-hand smoke has always been a shared concern indoors, never outdoors. I was pleased to see a study that focused on outdoor exposure. I am hopeful that this study will lead to more and more research on the dangers of second-hand smoke.

Among the harmful bacteria that were found in cigarettes are Acinetobacter, Bacillus, Burkholderia, Clostridium, Klebsiella, and Pseudomonas. Cigarettes contain many toxins and should be avoided at all costs. Some of the toxins include Ammonia, Arsenic, Benzene, Butane, Carbon Monoxide, Formaldehyde, Lead, Methanol, Nicotine and Tar among many others.

Teaching your kids from a young age that smoking is a dangerous, unhealthy habit that can kill you is one of the best ways to protect them from the dangers of cigarettes. Show them the effects cigarette smoking has on ones skin texture, teeth, body order, lungs, cardiovascular system, etc. Pictures are a good way to show this. You can educate them on healthy eating as well.

For some, smoking is extremely hard to quit, but it can be done.
